What Peter Brett offer:

This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to embark on the first step in their civil engineering career, yet looking for on-the-job training rather than continuing in full-time education.

Working initially as an Apprentice Engineer, you will be exposed to various aspects of civil engineering and have opportunities for professional technical training. We offer a number of discipline-specific Apprenticeship roles in Civil Infrastructure, Buildings/ Structures, Transport Planning/ Modelling and Bridge Engineering in locations across England.

You will develop skills in AutoCAD and other civil engineering software, and have the opportunity to undertake block-release education to study for a BEng (Hons) Civil & Infrastructure Engineering Degree with the University of Warwick.

As part of your apprenticeship, your five years, off-the-job training for a BEng (Hons) degree will be delivered through an initial induction day, then 6 x 1 week blocks of teaching at the University of Warwick each year, where you will attend lectures, seminars, participate in laboratory work, and spend time with your academic tutors, supported by online learning. Studying at Warwick will enable you to benefit from the academic rigour and state-of-the-art facilities that a top-class university can offer, where you will be part of an ambitious, diverse and high achieving student body.

You will be supported throughout your apprenticeship by your assigned workplace mentor, in conjunction with your University Apprenticeship Tutor, to ensure you gain the right mix of skills and experience to successfully complete your apprenticeship programme.

As an Apprentice, your key responsibilities will include:

-Use of CAD

-Use of other design programs

-Highway design support

-Drainage design support

-Utility Coordination & Management

-Assistance with technical approval submissions

-Be computer literate in MS Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

-Have the ability to work well in a team and to work on their own initiative

-Have a keen interest in Civil Infrastructure

Qualifications

To undertake the BEng Civil & Infrastructure Degree Apprenticeship Programme with the University of Warwick, you must meet the following admissions criteria:

-3 ‘A’ grades at A level, to include Mathematics and a Physical science.

-BTEC Extended Diploma with grade DDD and having taken the two Mathematics units, ‘Calculus to solve Engineering problems’ and ‘Further Engineering Mathematics’

-BTEC Diploma grade D*D*, with an A grade in A Level Maths or subject to passing Mathematics Test

Applicants with a strong profile, but who do not meet the above criteria, will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and will be subject to passing a Mathematics test.

For a Level 6 degree apprenticeship, you will be sponsored through a five-year BEng (Hons) Civil & Infrastructure Engineering degree programme with the University of Warwick. The University will provide the support and mentoring for you to gain your degree and successfully complete your apprenticeship to enable you to become an incorporated member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (IEng).
