English Language Support

The University of Warwick offers opportunities for students to enhance their understanding of the English Language. Students can do this as a stand alone course, before they begin their studies, or during the academic year. General information on all options available are below. Pre-sessional English language course

Students who have been offered a place at Warwick may benefit from the pre-sessional English language course which can be taken for 5 or 10 weeks during the summer. The course focuses on English for academic purposes and also helps students to adjust to life in Britain.

Programme in English for Postgraduate Studies
The Programme in English for Postgraduate Students at Warwick, is accredited by the British Council. It is an ideal language improvement programme for graduates who wish to prepare for further academic study, either at Warwick or at another university, and who need to improve their academic English to a high standard.

In-sessional support
The Centre for Applied Linguistics also offers free classes during term-time which focus on specific English language skills for academic purposes, and which aim to further develop and maintain students' English language ability.

Their website includes advice on listening, speaking, reading and writing; recommendations on reference materials, cultural information and advice and technical sections on dictionary usage and common grammar problems.
