Student Profile: Saloni Shah

I could not believe my eyes when I first walked around the campus. The campus looked even better than the pictures on the prospectus and the university's website.

How did you find out about Warwick?

My father studied at the University of Warwick from 1991-1994. He has told me a lot of his amazing experiences about his university life at Warwick. He also told me about the modern facilities the university has to support the academics, sports and social activities.

Did you consider studying anywhere else? What made you choose Warwick?

I had intended to study in the UK because their universities are recognized globally. Warwick is among the top ranked universities in the UK. Warwick Business School is one of the top business schools in the country. In addition, the structure and contents of the course will give me a good platform for my future career path.

How did you feel to be awarded a scholarship?

I was really overjoyed. I feel blessed and grateful to receive this scholarship. This scholarship has reduced the financial burden from my parents.

Who was the first person you told when you received the news about your scholarship and how did they react?

When I received the email from the university saying that I received the scholarship, I ran to my parents. My father had tears of joy in his eyes and quickly hugged me and thanked me for applying for the scholarship. My mother jumped with excitement and was extremely delighted.

How did you apply and did anyone help you with your application form and visa application?

It was a very smooth online application process. I took a little help from my parents and the University Agent, Uniserv. As a British citizen, I do not need a visa.

What was your first impression of Warwick when you first walked around campus?

I could not believe my eyes when I first walked around the campus. The campus looked even better than the pictures on the prospectus and the university's website.

What is the best thing about Warwick?

The best thing about Warwick is that it is a campus university and that all the facilities are nearby the halls of residence.

What is the worst thing?

So far, I have not experienced anything bad at Warwick.

How is your accommodation?

I am staying on campus at Rootes Residences. My first impression was that it had clean bathroom, washroom, kitchen and a good sized room. Next week, I will be moving to Bluebell which is a better accommodation than Rootes as it has an en-suite room.

Are you a member of any societies? If so, what have you done with them?

I have joined the Warwick Finance Society, Warwick Accounting Society, Asian Society and Indian Society. I have attended talks on the spring weeks and summer internships hosted by the Warwick Finance Society. I also attended the meet and greet events of the Asian and Indian Society. I am looking forward to participating in the future events of these societies.

What are your plans when you graduate?

After I graduate, I would like to become a qualified Chartered Accountant.

What would you say to someone considering applying for an Undergraduate Global Excellence scholarship at Warwick, what would it be?

A piece of advice I would give an applicant of this scholarship is to be truthful and honest in your application form and try to portray an image of the person you really are.

What one thing makes you happy about Warwick?

The friendly environment at Warwick has made it easy for me to settle in.
