Student Profile: Rafael Alejandro Vaquera Salazar

PhD Business and Management

How did you find out about Warwick?

I was conducting research online about academic rankings in higher education. When I found the Times Higher Education ranking, Warwick University was a leading institution in the UK, plus they have an agreement with CONACyT; that drew my attention to the University.

What are the main reasons you chose Warwick?

I considered Imperial College London, University of Sheffield and University of Edinburgh. I chose Warwick because the University has leading researchers and Professors, and due to my interest in global energy and policy making, I found a couple of Professors with great experience in those fields. I had a Skype meeting with one of them and that lead me to make the decision of applying in full for Warwick Business School PhD. Program.

Did you recieve any help with your application form and visa application, or any funding?

Love UK helped me a lot during the process, which was almost seamless. It was a great service as they are really well experienced in this kind of process. My studies are being funded by CONACyT and the Warwick Business School.

What was the best thing about your experience of student life at Warwick?

The best thing about Warwick is the quality of teaching and research. The campus is usually clean and full of people, I like that, and the Warwick Business School is nice as well.

What is the accommodation like?

My accommodation was off campus. I can say it was high quality.

What do you hope to achieve when you graduate?

I hope to join an University (in Mexico) or overseas... or maybe a consultancy firm specialized in global energy.

What advice would you give to anyone considering studying at Warwick?

Challenge yourself! Try to make the best application proposal (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) so you can get the attention of a researcher and later on join a research team ---research rules! :)
