The WMG Department, in collaboration with the High Value Manufacturing Catapult at the University of Warwick, is offering a unique opportunity for Year 10 students from Coventry and Warwickshire schools. This would suit individuals who are looking to pursue a future career in science and engineering. The five-day work experience will allow students to gain hands-on experience of working directly on a variety of university research projects with engineers, and provide an insight into studying at a top university.

The programme will run from Monday 10 July to Friday 14 July 2023, from 9.30am to 2.45pm, on campus at the University of Warwick.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for this opportunity, you must meet each of the following criteria:

• Currently a Year 10 student
• Interested in pursuing a career in science and engineering
• Agreement to attend from a parent/carer
• Support from your teacher
• Able to attend the five day programme at the University of Warwick

You must also meet at least one of our Widening Participation criteria:

• In receipt of, or within the last six years has been eligible for, free school meals.
• Living, or has lived in, local authority care.
• Has caring responsibilities (young carer).

Application process

We are expecting a high number of applications for this event, therefore each application will be assessed and places offered based on both meeting the eligibility criteria and on the quality of the student’s personal statement.

Once a student’s application form is submitted, the nominated teacher and parent/carer will immediately receive a link for completing a verification form. The closing date for applications is Wednesday 17 May 2023. We will contact applicants and their respective schools in June to inform them as to whether they have been successful.
