The PhD is designed as a programme combining research methods training and individual, supervised research, leading to an 80,000 word thesis. The thesis is expected to be a substantial original contribution to knowledge and, in principle, to be capable of peer-reviewed publication.
Our main research themes are childhood, cultural and creative learning, school leadership and improvement, religions and education research, life sciences education, special needs education and disability research and international development and education.
The PhD programme has an Advanced Research Methods training element that is compulsory. This training takes place during term 2 once a week. We have several research student work rooms within the department with desk top computers available.
Entry requirements 2:i undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in ELT, English, Education, Linguistics, Languages or a relevant discipline; a Master’s degree in ELT, Applied Linguistics or a relevant discipline

With a minimum of 6.5 in the Writing component
