Developed in consultation with our industrial partners, our Supply Chain Leadership programme provides specialist development in supply chain practices and leadership within a supply chain context. This course will help you make a difference to your company and achieve your career goals.

This course aims to help supply chain leaders within industry progress through the development of technical skills and knowledge in supply chain, alongside building leadership behaviours.

The applied nature of this course means you can take knowledge learnt on the programme and immediately apply it to your role via work-based assignments, instilling the theory into practice.

Your business will benefit from your increased knowledge and confidence as you will feel empowered to make improvements and lead the change in your organisation. You will gain an academic qualification from a top 10 UK university and apply your learnings to create immediate impact at work.

If you’re not yet ready to commit to a period of long-term study, you can also build up to your MSc in stages by stopping after two years with a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip).

Who is this course for?

The course is designed for employees working in the supply chain function of an organisation – from first line managers to middle and senior managers.

It is particularly suited to employees with a technical or engineering background or who have relevant work experience in the supply chain function of an organisation, and who are looking to progress their careers in a leadership role in a supply chain environment.

There are seven core modules and if you are completing the MSc there is a company-based project dissertation in the area of supply chain leadership. In addition to the assessed modules, there will be a study skills (non-assessed) event delivered at the start of the course to set the context, introduce key study skills and enable you to meet your fellow cohort and start to build your network.

Modules normally comprise of lectures, seminars, and undertaking group tasks based on real scenarios. The course will use a range of traditional and innovative teaching methods, predominantly focused on blended learning practices. Some modules will be delivered fully online, other modules will include industry visits, real-life projects, virtual clinics and the use of multi-media resources. Our blended learning is a combination of face-to-face and online delivery and is aimed at offering a combination of flexibility and networking opportunities for work-based learners. We will be able to give you the schedule in advance so you can plan your time out of the office.

We use the Kirkpatrick model (1996), which is globally recognised as an excellent tool for evaluating the effectiveness of any training. This ensures the course we deliver you has a direct impact.

The class size for this programme is usually around 15 students.

Modules are usually delivered in a week-long block format and contact hours vary from module to module. A typical module will have approximately 30 hours of contact time, whether delivered face-to-face or online.

We will use a range of assessment methods that are appropriate to the topics being taught. Of course, you will need to undertake reading and assignments, but these assignments are usually related to your workplace and help you to apply what you have learnt. Students often find that the assignments provide valuable evidence of continuing professional development, demonstrate to their organisations their developing knowledge, and often benefit the company by providing an analysis of an area of operations.

Your timetable

Your personalised timetable will be complete when you are registered for all modules, and you have been allocated to your lectures, seminars and other small group classes. Your modules will be registered for you when you join us.

The course is designed for those in employment as you will need to apply your studies directly to the work environment throughout the programme.

We recommend you have at least three years of appropriate professional experience and that you possess the equivalent of a UK second-class honours degree.

The course is also open to talented individuals without a first degree, who have relevant work-experience, have taken a less-traditional route in their career and who will have shown great potential in the business. Please contact us to discuss.

Empower (30 credits)

Strategic Thinking in the Supply Chain

You will develop your capabilities to think and act strategically, so that you can leverage the supply chain to support the business strategy and deliver sustained competitive advantage.

You will develop skills in learning to learn, promoting self-responsibility and to specifically address behavioural issues that limit individual achievement.

Improve (50 credits)

Supply Chain Fundamentals

You will explore the basic concept of what a supply chain is and the underpinning building blocks of the supply chain; planning, manufacturing, procurement, logistics and circular economy.

Performance Management for Success

You will critically evaluate performance measurement in relation to the delivery of customer and shareholder value, aligning with corporate accountability and compliance management.

Supply Chain Design

Building upon the concepts introduced in the Supply Chain Fundamentals, you will learn about a coherent framework for end-to-end supply chain design from strategic, network and operating model perspectives.

Transform (40 credits)

Innovation

We will introduce you to a variety of concepts, models and frameworks that will help you to understand the nature of creativity and innovation, to enable you and your team to be innovative.

MSc Project Dissertation

To gain your MSc you need to complete a company based project which will focus on a live issue within your organisation.
