Study MPhil/PhD in German Studies under the supervision of an internationally-leading experts. Warwick's Modern Language and Cultures department invites you to study amongst a vibrant research community while engaging the diversity of German language culture.


Before you arrive you will be matched to one or more of our expert supervisors and during the course you will meet with them frequently for guidance on the conceptualization, research and writing of your Dissertation. This will include reading and discussion of draft material. You will also be expected to participate in the research culture of the School, for example by attending research seminars.

Most areas from the 18th-century Enlightenment to the present day, with notable areas of expertise in: German Classicism and Romanticism; Orientalism in German Culture from 1800 to the Present; German Diasporic Cultures and Literatures; Nationalism and Anti-Semitism; Weimar Cultures; Contemporary German History; Post-War German Literature and Culture; German Memory Cultures; Transnationalism, transculturalism and world literatures; Critical Theory.


Entry requirements 2:i undergraduate degree (or equivalent) and preferably a Masters in a related subject

English language requirements Band B
IELTS overall score of 7.0, minimum component scores of two at 6.0/6.5 and the rest at 7.0 or above
