MSc Management of Information Systems and Digital Innovation develops your management and consulting skills for a professional career in which you help businesses to thrive in the digital age. Warwick Business School aims to create managers with a creative mindset to integrate IT and digital innovations in business.


Course overview

You will develop your management and consulting skills for a professional career in which you help businesses to thrive in the digital age. This course is about how to better manage, strategise, and use digital technology for business purposes.

You will get the opportunity to tailor your options to your own interests, giving you the opportunity to specialise in IT consultancy or programming/analytics, or gain an understanding of both disciplines. There is a choice of Dissertation or Business in Practice route. If you are considering further academic study (PhD) and you would like the opportunity to research a topic relating to digital innovation, the dissertation enables you to test and apply the techniques and theories you have gained.

If you would like to develop further applied skills to suit your career aspirations, you can complete your studies with two optional modules and our applied Business in Practice module.

General entry requirements

Minimum requirements

At least a 2.1 degree at Undergraduate level or equivalent. We consider applicants from all undergraduate backgrounds for this MSc.

  • IELTS overall score of 7.0, minimum component scores of two at 6.0/6.5 and the rest at 7.0 or above.

International qualifications

Creating Digital Communities

This module aims to provide an overview about how today’s firms use digital marketing technologies to achieve their business objectives.

Global Sourcing and Innovation
The module will offer a broad perspective of various issues relating to the outsourcing and offshoring of strategic IT and business services in a global context.

Strategic Human Resource Management*
The aim of the module is to provide you with a deep understanding of this strategic role of human capital management and the tools with which to analyse and manage it.

Governance & Corporate Responsibility*
Open to students who have opted for the Business in Practice route, through this module you will understand the wider institutional location of business activity.

Business, International Finance and Economics*
This this module will provide real world examples and case studies to illustrate how economic thinking helps businesses make the most of new opportunities, while managing the risks associated with expansion into new markets and regions.

Driving Innovation and Entrepreneurship through Marketing and Strategy*
Explore the importance of management of innovation in products, processes, technology and communications.

Entrepreneurship & Business Venturing*
In this module you will study the contexts, components, and processes of entrepreneurial behaviour in different types of organisations.

People and Organisations*
Get acquainted with the principles, theories and research surrounding the behaviour, leadership and management of people and organisations.

Leading for Innovation*
Open to students who have opted for the Business in Practice route, this module aims to develop a greater understanding of how to foster an innovative work environment.

International Business*
Open to students who have opted for the Business in Practice route, this module aims to develop a critical awareness of the issues, problems, concepts, and skills associated with the development of international business strategy and operations.

Teaching

Gain an excellent foundation in management theory and practical use of information systems, and learn to manage digital innovation to achieve business value. Our options make it possible to specialise in IT consultancy or programming analytics, or to choose elective modules to give insight into both areas.

We use real-life case studies and practitioner input at every opportunity and across all our core and optional modules.


Class sizes

The typical class size for this course is around 130 students.


Typical contact hours

Delivery of modules varies – some are taught over the course of a term, whilst others are delivered in an intensive 5-day block.


Assessment

Assessment is a mix of individual assignments, group work, exams and tests.

Choice of Dissertation or Business in Practice route:

Dissertation route

If you are considering further academic study (PhD) and you would like the opportunity to research a topic relating to information systems and digital innovation, the 8,000-word dissertation will enable you to test and apply the techniques and theories you have gained.

Business in Practice route

If you would like to develop further applied skills and specialist knowledge to suit your career aspirations, you can complete your studies with our applied Business in Practice module. You will develop deep functional and industry expertise with practical insights from our faculty and our CareersPlus and Corporate Relations team.

In total, you will study six core modules, two specialist optional modules, two open optional modules, and also complete the Business in Practice capstone module.


Your timetable

Your personalised timetable will be complete when you are registered for all modules, core and optional, and you have been allocated to your lectures, seminars and other small group classes. Your core modules will be registered for you and you’ll be able to choose your optional modules when you join us.

There may be events taking place in the evenings. Classes may run up to 7pm and other events, such as careers presentations may take place later or on weekends. Occasionally, classes and exams may be held on weekends. We will notify you in advance if this is the case.

This is a full-time course, so there are no holidays as such. However, the two weeks covering Christmas and New Year are guaranteed to be free from lectures. There may also be weeks free over the Easter period (check with your programme team). Resit exams may take place outside of standard teaching periods.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees are payable for each year of your course at the start of the academic year, or at the start of your course, if later. Academic fees cover the cost of tuition, examinations and registration and some student amenities.

Fee Status Guidance

The University carries out an initial fee status assessment based on information provided in the application and according to the guidance published by UKCISA. Students are classified as either Home or Overseas Fee status and this can determine the tuition fee and eligibility of certain scholarships and financial support. 

If you receive an offer, your fee status will be stated with the tuition fee information. If you believe your fee status has been incorrectly classified you can complete a fee status assessment questionnaire (follow the instructions in your offer) and provide the required documentation for this to be reassessed.

The application process for courses that start in September and October 2024 will open on 2 October 2023.

Applications will close on 2 August 2024 for students who require a visa to study in the UK, to allow time to receive a CAS and complete the visa application process.
