Visiting research students

We welcome applications for visiting postgraduate research student places. However, it is strongly suggested that you contact the relevant department to discuss your needs before you apply as a visiting student.

In order to attend the University as a visiting research student you must submit an application for a research course via our Postgraduate Admissions online application form. Where a department has more than one PhD on offer they will confirm to The Postgraduate Admissions Team which course you are to be assigned to at the point of offer.

The application form asks you to enter a start date for your studies. Choose the correct academic entry year or, if the required start date does not coincide with the start of the academic year, tick the check box, “If you wish to start at a different point in the academic year please tick here". Then enter a specific start date in the field provided. Please indicate in your personal statement the end date of your visit.

In support of your application you will be asked to provide a letter from your current supervisor which confirms your suitability for undertaking research at the University of Warwick as a visiting student. You will also need to meet the relevant department’s English language requirement.

If you are an overseas student and would like further information regarding the appropriate visa please visit here for immigration advice.

Application deadlines

If you’re a UK or EU resident, there are no application deadlines for postgraduate taught courses. But places are limited, so you should submit your application as early as possible.

Some applicants may need to obtain a student visa to study in the UK. For these applicants, the application deadline is 2 August 2024, to allow time to receive a CAS and complete the visa application process. Applicants who don’t need a visa do not have a deadline, however we recommend submitting your application as soon as possible to allow sufficient time for your application to be processed.
