As products become increasingly complex, so do the manufacturing systems required to produce them. This course is about designing and managing the most efficient means of production, in order to make the best products. Designed for engineering graduates interested in manufacturing systems and operations management, MSEM is suitable for engineers already working in industry who want to make the transition to engineering manager. It is also ideal for recent graduates looking to fast-track their career in order to take a leading role within the manufacturing sector.
This course combines value creation with strategic development in a manufacturing environment, providing you with the latest manufacturing techniques and processes. We work at the forefront of emerging technologies, and through collaborative Research and Development with industry partners, we drive the transfer of knowledge into new areas. As an MSEM student, you will benefit from much of the dynamic research carried out in the areas of advanced materials and processes, additive layer manufacturing, automation and robotics, machining technology, and digital manufacturing.
This course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Candidates must hold a CEng accredited BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree to comply with full CEng registration requirements.

This course has two components – a taught component and a research component (dissertation) each accounting for 50% of your time and effort.
For the taught component, we blend lectures with seminars, syndicate exercises, simulations, and case studies. Each module is delivered intensively over one full week or two half weeks, and classes are deliberately kept small to encourage interaction. Larger scale lectures are delivered for some modules and are backed up by seminar and syndicate activities.
Our module leaders have extensive industry experience. Guest speakers from industry also contribute regularly, bringing real-world insight into your learning experience.
At the end of each module, you will be given a Post Module Assignment (PMA) based on the learning objectives of that module. This is a piece of assessed written work which should take around 60 hours to complete. Many modules also have some in-module assessed work.
For the research component, each student undertakes a major individual project, which will develop your research and analytical skills and enable you to specialise. This project accounts for 50% of your overall credits and is submitted in the form of a dissertation of approximately 20,000 words, which may be followed by an oral examination or viva at the end of the year.

English language requirements Band A
IELTS overall score of 6.5, minimum component scores not below 6.0

The WMG Excellence Scholarship is a merit-based award open to offer-holders across all full-time WMG programmes. Over 50 scholarships ranging from 10% to 50% tuition fee discount will be awarded for 2021 entry.
