Important information

We are planning to make changes to our BA Classics (Ancient Greek) with Study in Europe degree for 2022 entry. Changes to core modules go through the University's rigorous academic processes. As module changes are confirmed, we will update the course information on this webpage. It is therefore very important that you check this webpage for the latest information before you apply and prior to accepting an offer.

On the 'Modules' we revised the module content listed for Year One:

Previous content:

In your first year, you will take core modules in Greek literary texts, a modern European language (currently Italian or German), Greek Culture and Society, and Roman Culture and Society.

Revised content:

In your first year, you take core modules in Greek literary texts and a modern European language, alongside a choice of optional modules studying texts, material culture, society or ancient thought.

Optional Modules: a choice of four from the modules below:

  • Greek Culture and Society
  • Roman Culture and Society
  • Ancient Thought: Philosophy, Politics, Science
  • Encounters with Greek Texts

  • Students with A-level Greek will take Greek Literary Texts
  • Students without a qualification in Greek will take Greek Language

Previous content:

You will take four modules each year, the assessment of which is generally equally divided between essays submitted during the year and exams in the summer (100% exam for language modules). Your second and final years contribute equally to your final degree classification.

Revised content:

You will take 120 CATS each year (through a combination of 15 and 30 CAT modules). Assessment methods include coursework submitted during the year (e.g. essays, blog posts, learning logs) and exams in the summer (100% exam for language modules).

Your second and final years contribute equally to your final degree classification.

You will take four modules, each with 2-3 contact hours per week (more for your language module/s).

Revised content:

You will take four modules per term, each with 2-3 contact hours per week.
