Why study Modern Languages at Warwick?

  • Warwick’s School of Modern Languages and Cultures offers a powerful combination of languages, research interests and degree courses, comprising four main academic specialisms (French, German, Hispanic and Italian Studies) and the Language Centre (which offers languages including Arabic, Russian, Japanese, Mandarin and Portuguese). Our strengths lie in a focus on interdisciplinary and transnational perspectives, and in the wide span of our research and teaching in both chronological and geographical terms. Modules and degree courses are under constant review, meaning they are fresh, effective and challenging. Some courses are open to students who are beginners or intermediate in a language.
  • Our constituent academic subjects are consistently ranked highly in the national and international league tables. We are currently 7th in the UK in The Guardian 2017 league table and among the top 50 departments in the world according to the QS World University Rankings 2016/2017. Our School also achieved a 97% satisfaction result for Teaching in the National Student Survey 2016.
  • We offer outstanding facilities for undergraduate linguists, including the University Language Centre, where there are opportunities to take extra language courses in addition to your main course of study (additional fees apply). Our Transnational Resources Centre (TRC) also gives our students exclusive access to a suite of multimedia rooms and a library of more than 4,000 films in French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.
