Glass Recycling on Campus

Glass is 100% recyclable and can be endlessly recycled with no loss of quality. The UK currently recycles around 71% of container glass, like bottles and jars however, the glass sector is working towards a 90% collection rate for glass by 2030. Each time one tonne of glass is recycled, about 580kg CO2 is saved throughout the supply chain, air pollution is reduced by 20% and water pollution cut by 50%!

So, let’s do what we can to help with this both on and off campus. Glass can be recycled in bottle banks or as part of your general recycling, just make sure it’s clean first! Alternatively reuse what you can. Glass jars are great for storage and can be repurposed for lots of things.

If you live or work on campus glass should be recycled at one of the designated glass recycling points in the wheely bins provided. However, if you live in Sherbourne accommodation glass can go in with your mixed recycling bin; this will roll out to other accommodation areas as our new waste system is introduced.

Please make sure to fill ALL bins outside at your waste points and not leave bags around the bins when there is space for them inside a bin. Also, please remember to flatpack cardboard boxes before recycling so that space is not wasted.

If you are still on campus over the Christmas period, the waste team will continue to collect your waste as normal.
