CO-LAB 1.0 Creativity at the Heart

Co-Lab event logo

Exploring Deeper Connections between the Arts and STEM.

NEW DATE: Thursday 18th May 2023, 3.00pm - 6.00pm (Oculus, 0.04, Warwick Campus)

We invite Warwick researchers, teachers, postgrads, and their collaborative partners off campus, to attend our first themed sharing, exploring, and networking event.

Co-Lab 1.0 Programme

The fruits of what we might generally call ‘creativity’ are not just to be found in galleries, in libraries, in musical venues, and on cinema and television screens. They are to be found in technological advances, scientific knowledge and practice, and in our built environment and engineered infrastructure. During Coventry’s City of Culture, and particularly Warwick’s Resonate Festival in 2022, scientific and technical research, knowledge, and learning were all shown to be mutually enmeshed with creativity in all kinds of ways that are often overlooked.

Yet how deep is our understanding of these connections? When arts and sciences meet, must the relationship always be lop-sided? Are the arts just there to illustrate the ‘real’ knowledge given to us by science in accessible, engaging, and memorable fashion? Are science, technology, and technical expertise merely the lifeless facilitators of the true creativity shown to us by artists and the work? The first CO-LAB session wishes to explore how different forms of creative thought and practice drive research, innovation, knowledge production, teaching and training in both so-called STEM subjects and the Arts. We are especially interested in hearing about projects, ideas and working relationships which cut across the ostensible divide between the arts, science, and technology, and which unite Warwick colleagues and their off-campus partners in co-designed, collaborative, and co-produced work and methods.

Whatever your disciplinary background, whether you are working in research, teaching, engagement or in shared off-campus ventures, we invite Warwick colleagues and external partners and affiliates to come to CO-LAB 1.0 and engage with our theme of ‘Creativity at the Heart’ in one of the following ways:

- Present your ongoing work or project in 10-15 minutes

- Pitch an idea or future project to a mixed audience (10-15 Minutes)

- Network and find potential collaborators or partners for knowledge exchange

- Come and listen, learn and absorb

In all cases, please book here
