Call Out for Christmas Lecture Presenters!
Would you like to take the stage and share your passion for science with over a thousand school children, young people, families and adults? We are looking for enthusiastic and engaging scientists to take the stage at Warwick Arts Centre in December 2022.
The annual Warwick Christmas Lectures aim to inspire and engage the next generation of scientists. Running for over 10 years, this is a key event in our festive calendar in engaging our community. We want to break down the barriers to science by making Warwick’s cutting-edge research accessible and engaging to a family audience.
You can be a PhD student, academic, technician, or any other science-related role.
Brief
Your contribution could be:
- A 20-minute lecture
- A demonstration, experiment or contribution that lasts 10 minutes
We are looking for
- Science that is engaging and interesting.
- Exciting experiments and/or demonstrations that have a visual impact.
- Language that explains things clearly to those as young as 8 years old, but also engages the adults in the audience, and all the ages in between!
- Enthusiasm and passionforyour subject.
- Opportunitiesforthe audience to becalled on stage to volunteer or to participate from their seats. One experiment should ideally include the whole audience.
- A connection to Christmas is desirable but not essential.
What next?
Once selected, you will work with the Warwick Christmas Lectures team who will support you with accessibility for younger audiences and making your contribution ready for the stage of the Butterworth Hall!
The Christmas Lectures Team are Ally Caldecote, Senior Teaching Fellow, Physics, Paul Warwick, Director, China Plate Theatre and Gemma Wright, Head of Creative Learning, Warwick Arts Centre.
To apply
Outlines should fill no more than one side of A4 paper and successful applicants will be invited to audition. Full versions of experiments will not be necessary.
Applications must be sent to Ally Caldecote at a.caldecote@warwick.ac.uk and received no later than Friday 23rd September.
