The call for public engagement event expressions of interest is open for the Economic and Social Research Council’s Festival of Social Science Link 2022.Link opens in a new window
This internally funded opportunity is open to all Warwick researchers based in the UK, not just social scientists or those funded by ESRC, and may involve outside partners. However, the planned event/activity must feature Warwick social science research in some way.
This year the UK-wide Festival will run From Saturday 22nd October to Sunday 13th November 2022.
It is a chance for anyone from a wide range of disciplines to demonstrate some of the country’s leading social science research and how it impacts and influences our social, economic and political lives.
Events can include public debate, workshops, interactive exhibitions, ideas cafés, film screenings and discussions. The main criterion is that your engaged audience is a public one, a non-academic audience, which could be young people, schools, charities, business or government.
This year the Festival’s key theme is ‘My Local Area’ and engagements that fit with the theme will be looked upon favourably, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply if your activity won’t fit with the theme, we need some to fit, not all!
You can propose an online or in-person event, thirty minutes or a whole day, group delivery or just yourself, whatever suits you and your topic.
WIE can support you in a variety of ways:
Funding – we have a pot of money dedicated to help develop and deliver social science public engagement activities. You are welcome to apply for funding up to £1,000 which can be used for equipment, consumables or even room hire. It cannot be used to cover staff time however.
Collaboration – we have contacts throughout the university and the community so if you would like to collaborate or partner with someone please get in touch.
Training – we have a variety of training materials on our Skills Festival web pages [add link] plus a number of live training session throughout the year. If you have a specific training need please get in touch with us.
Support – if you would like support to devise or develop your activity please get in touch and one of the team or our Fellows can help.
Publicity – we will be coordinating publicity and promotion of any Warwick activities via the Resonate website [add link] and through our community communications. All you need to do is let us know what you’re doing, when and where and we will add it to our promotions.
Stewards – if you need helpers or stewards to deliver your engagement please let us know as we can help find students to help.
Ready to apply?
We can accept expressions of interest up to and including Wednesday 31st August 2022. We will conduct a rolling review process, reviewing new submissions once a week so you can expect to hear from us within 5 working days of your submission.
We have a limited budget, once all funds are allocated we will not be able to provide more so we suggest you apply early if you want to access the development fund.
