Pint of Science 2022
What is it?
Pint of Science is an annual festival that happens over three evenings in May (9th, 10th and 11th) simultaneously in multiple cities around the globe. The events are aimed at the public who have an interest in knowing what’s going on in science research, but who do not have a background in it. It’s designed to be a fun activity with people coming away having learnt an interesting fact they will share with others.
Have a look at what we did last year:
Why do it?
People are interested in how the world works There’s also a gap in knowledge about what scientists actually do and this leads to mistrust. For scientists it’s a platform to share their research but also to gain different perspectives.
For attendees it’s an opportunity to hear about what’s happening and directly question people who are responsible for research and the future of science.
How can you get involved?
We are looking for presenters who are passionate about science and have an engaging story to tell. Below are a few ideas of the key subjects we are looking to cover this year.
We welcome submissions from all staff and students! Please fill out the form below to let us know what you want to tell the world about. If successful, further guidance will be provided and you will be supported by our dedicated Public Engagement team in the planning of the event. Some things to bare in mind as you draw up your proposal:
- It will be hosted in a venue outside the university
- It should be aimed at a non specialist audience no acronyms or jargon
- Include a background to the topic and explain some of your recent research and implications
- Talks/ activities should be no longer than 20 to 30 minutes
- Use interactive demonstrations or bring something from the lab where possible
- Make it fun, interactive and engaging
Please note that this year we are returning to an in person format, rather than online events.
