Theatre Without Borders - Global Shakespeare in Paris

The Global Shakespeare team, Director David Schalkwyk and Research fellows, Preti Taneja and Katherine Hennessey have just taken part in the Theatre Without Borders Conference, Translation, Imitation and Boundary-Crossing in the Transnational Theatres of Early Modern Europe and Beyond, held at the NYU in Paris Center

The three members of Global Shakespeare constituted a panel in which they presented work on the recent Dash Arts workshop on King Lear held in Warwick, Shakespeare in Ireland and the Arabian peninsula, and Shakespeare and human rights in Jordan and Syria. The panel preceded a keynote address by the well-known Kuwaiti director and writer, Sulayman Al Bassam, who will be a Global Shakespeare Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Queen Mary University of London in spring 2016, where he will work on an adaptation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.

David is currently in Venice, participating in the final week of the Shakespeare in venice Summer School: The Shylock Project. He gives a public lecture tomorrow on "Shylock and the Impossible gift of love".
