WUB-hub publication of BELARUS IN XXI CENTURY: between dictatorship and democracy
The book 'Belarus in the XXI century: between dictatorship and democracy' edited by Elena Korosteleva, Irina Petrova and Anastassiia Kudlenko, is now translated into Belarusian, produced and published by Skaryna Press London on 7 April 2024! The book looks at the evolution of peoplehood in Belarus taking the year of 2020 as a watershed moment for the rise of a new political force in the country, called 'the People!'. This process of emergence is examined from historical, cultural, anthropological, economic and political perspectives. The book is available for order here.
Dr Paul Hansbury quoted in World Politics Review
WUB Hub research fellow Dr Paul Hansbury was quoted in an article in World Politics Review titled 'Lukashenko isn't done dismantling Belarus' democracy':
'[T]he permanent [All-Belarusian People's Assembly] is "a very significant step," Paul Hansbury, a research fellow at Warwick University's Warwick Ukraine-Belarus Hub, told WPR. "It's a way Lukashenko is preparing for a power transition after he steps down from the presidency at some point."'

WUB Hub webinar: Holding the Dictators to Account
The Warwick Ukraine-Belarus Hub convened its webinar 'Holding the Dictators to Account'. The panellists were: Kateryna Rashevska, a lawyer from the Regional Centre for Human Rights; Guillem Cano-Palomares, deputy head of the Secretariat of the PACE Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights; Anais Marin, the United Nations Special Rapporteur for the Situation on Human Rights in Belarus; and Kanstantsin Dzehtsiarou, Professor of Law at the University of Liverpool. A policy paper based on the webinar event will be published in due course.
