Warwick Honorary Reader talks of Everest research triumph

Chris ImrayChris Imray, Honorary Reader in Surgery at Warwick Medical School and Consultant Vascular and Renal Transplant Surgeon at the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, has spoken of the success of his research trip to Mount Everest.

On 23 May Chris, four friends from the Caudwell Xtreme Everest Team and their Sherpas reached the summit.

Says Chris, "For me it was the culmination of many years of effort, both on the climbing front and the medical research front. In addition to the climbing we also established the world’s highest medical research laboratory at the South Col at an altitude of 8000m.

Here we performed maximal exercise tests and cerebral perfusion tests on the climbers and some of the summiteers as part of the CXE team’s programme of research into both the hypoxic individual and stroke prevention."
