Warwick-led research on headaches hits the headlines
Warwick Medical School's Professor Martin Underwood chaired the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence's (NICE) first guidelines for treating headaches.
The NICE panel found people who regularly take medicines, such as aspirin, paracetamol and triptans could be causing themselves more pain than relief. The new guidance advises GPs and other healthcare professionals to consider the possibility of “medication overuse” in their patients who have been taking medicines for up to half of the days in a month, over three months.
The story was covered extensively, including by BBC News, BBC Breakfast, Daybreak, Sky News, Channel 4 News
Professor Underwood was interviewed on the BBC's Today programme on Radio 4, BBC 5Live, BBC Radio Stoke and BBC Coventry and Warwickshire.
