Warwick part of international partnership to translate research into real patient care
The University of Warwick and the Royal College of Nursing Research Institute (RCNRI) are taking part in a new international collaboration to translate research evidence into real improvements in patient care.
Work has begun on a four year EU-funded study to look at getting evidence into practice for continence care in nursing homes.
The project is a partnership between the universities of Warwick/RCNRI, Bangor and Ulster, Manchester Business School, Fontys University in the Netherlands, Karolinska Institute in Sweden, University College Cork, University of Alberta in Canada and the University of Adelaide in Australia.
As part of the study, local practitioners will be given guidelines for managing urinary incontinence in frail older people. Practitioners will be given different types of support in implementing these guidelines and the processes and outcomes of this implementation will be evaluated.
The research will take place in four EU countries with the potential to include sites in Australia. Conferences and networking activities will be held in the various countries to promote involvement throughout Europe and beyond.
Professor Kate Seers, Project Co-ordinator at the University of Warwick said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for an international collaboration to understand more about using evidence in practice and to make a difference to the care of older people in nursing homes.
“The research has the potential to contribute to improved quality of life for older people with health care needs and their carers, as well as reducing costs for the health systems.”
