About the project

Comorbidities are very prevalent in people with chronic spinal pain, with sleep problems and insomnia being one of the most reported. Sleep problems appear to be undertreated in clinical practice. If sleep problems are addressed, the treatment is often limited to the prescription of sedative pain/sleep medications.

This project aims to improve our understanding and the treatment of insomnia and chronic pain. Specially, this study investigates the feasibility of offering an adapted version of the recommended first-line treatment, cognitive-behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) with the aim to minimise side-effects (such as pain flare-ups) and improve adharence which is often seen when the treatment is offered digitally with minimal therapist guidance.

The intervention offered in this study is completely non-pharmacological.

This project is supported by the EUTOPIA Science and Innovation Fellowship Programme and funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 945380.
