Shorter texts - essays, exam answers etc 

Often, in shorter texts, the main body will function as one or more of the following depending on the key word(s) in the question or instruction.

1. Narrative
2. Description
3. Comparison
4. Evaluation
5. Argument
6. Analysis
7. Problem-solution

 

Longer texts: assignments, dissertations etc  

In longer texts, some or all of the following may be present, after the introduction and before the conclusion.

1. Literature review
2. Methods
3. Findings
4. Case study
5. Discussion
