Academic Writing – Online Learning

Welcome to your in-sessional course in academic writing! You have already been given a syllabus, so you know what areas of writing you will be covering over the next ten weeks. This course is now supported by a new text feedback tool, linked to Internet resources.

During your program in academic writing, you will have the opportunity to submit short pieces of work and receive feedback from your tutor. As part of an e-learning initiative, the text you submit will be annotated with links to various web pages. Your tutor will look through your writing and identify problem areas which you could work on in order to improve your written academic English. The hyperlinks will take you to web pages dealing with grammar, vocabulary, punctuation and style. In this way, you will be able to learn or revise specific language points and, by doing the self-study exercises, improve your writing.

The process is simple: you upload the text you want corrected; your tutor will read through your work and add useful and relevant links; you receive the annotated text (tutor upload) and follow the links inserted by your tutor to study academic writing at your own pace.

We very much hope that you will let us have your impressions of this method of feedback. For this reason, we have included a blog facility on this web site ; you can send the tutor your comments about the links and say whether you found them helpful or not. What we aim to do is to build up a list of the best links for you and other students to access easily and quickly.

We hope you enjoy using the tool and learning from the links!

Please use the Introduction Form now before you send your written work.
