Warwick PPE Graduate announced as Gates Cambridge Scholar 2020

Ronja Griep, a BA Philosophy, Politics and Economics graduate, has been announced as a Gates Cambridge Scholar for 2020.

The scholarship programme was established in 2000 after the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation donated $210 million to the University of Cambridge to fund an international postgraduate scholarship programme for students who are both academically outstanding and show a strong commitment to improving the lives of others. This year’s cohort of 77 Scholars - the Class of 2020 - includes citizens from 30 different countries.

ronjaRonja says:

"My doctoral research aims to offer a new perspective on the still deeply entrenched distinction between the private and public realms by looking e.g. at hate speech. How much does our private life influence how we act as public citizens? The answer to this question is embedded in real, serious political discussions. I hope to become involved in political movements that work with the victims of hate speech raging around us - on Twitter, at home, and in universities, among other places.”

Our congratulations to Ronja!
