PPE Examinations Meeting Wednesday 24th April 2013

Second and final year PPE students are invited to a meeting to discuss your Honours level examinations. The meeting will be held on Wednesday 24th April 2013 at 2.00 pm in MS.01. At the meeting, we will explain the Honours Degree Classification Conventions and answer any questions. The pathway meeting is a monitoring point so attendance is mandatory.

Andrew Gamble: Tuesday, January 31

Andrew Gamble will talk about "Crisis Without End" at 6:30 pm in H0.51. Andrew Gamble is Professor and Head of the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge. His extensive work on British politics, political economy, and political thought and ideology has been recognized by prizes and fellowships. His most recent work, The Spectre at the Feast (2009), analyses the politics of recession and capitalist crises. It raised many issues, including the wider implications of the 2008 Financial Crisis and how far they will stretch out, and the impact on the balance of global power. Three years after the book was published, Prof. Gamble will give his views on the events that have unravelled now that we start to see these wider implications, and how the world order may be changing in response to the financial crisis.

Theodore Zeldin: Thursday, Nov. 26

Theodore Zeldin will talk about "The Future of Work," at 6:30 pm in SO.21. Theodore Zeldin is a philosophy and historian. He is the author of many books, including An Intimate History of Humanity (Vintage 1995) and Conversation: How Talk Can Change Our Lives (HiddenSpring 2000). He is president of the Oxford Muse Foundation. This is the second of this year's PPE Guest Lectures.

Oliver James: Thursday, Nov. 3

Oliver James will talk about "Why Our Country Is Mad – And How Political Economics Can Make It Saner," at 6:30 pm in LIB2. Oliver James is a psychologist, author, and broadcaster. His most recent book is Affluenza (Vermilion, 2007). His website is http://www.selfishcapitalist.com/. This is the first PPE Guest Lecture of 2011/12.
