Eleni Tsingou is a Research Fellow and Programme Manager of GARNET (www.garnet-eu.org), an EU-funded FP6 Network of Excellence on 'Global Governance, Regionalisation and Regulation: the Role of the EU' comprised of 42 universities and research centres across Europe (2005-2010).
She joined Warwick Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation (CSGR) as a Research Fellow in 2002 and was associated with the Department of Politics and International Studies (2002-2005), where she was Module Director on the MA module 'International Business in the International System'. She was educated at the University of Oxford, the George Washington University and the University of Amsterdam. Her doctoral dissertation is entitled ‘Club-Model Politics and Global Financial Governance – the Case of the Group of Thirty’ and was supported by an Amsterdam School for Social Science Research scholarship.
Her research work in CSGR has focused on private authority in the financial markets, the role of transnational financial policy communities in shaping practices of regulation and supervision, and the development of stronger patterns of accountability in financial governance; in particular, she has worked on these issues with respect to the Basel II capital adequacy requirements and the treatment of OTC derivatives. Further research has concentrated on the emerging global anti-money laundering regime, including comparative work on practices in different jurisdictions and assessments of regulatory drives in the areas of anti-money laundering and the combatting of terrorist financing. In the context of GARNET, Eleni is also involved in the Gender in International Political Economy group on 'The Production of Governance of Gender Knowledge in IPE' research project.
