David McClure
Born 1926, Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire, Scotland. Died 1998
David McClure's education at Glasgow University was interrupted by war service. In 1947 he recommenced his studies in Fine Art at Edinburgh University, and from 1952-53 held a travelling scholarship to Spain and Italy. From 1957-85 he lectured in painting at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. He was elected RSW in 1965 and RSA in 1971. McClure has exhibited widely in Scotland and as part of mixed shows of Scottish artists. In 1965 he had an exhibition at the University of Birmingham and in 1978 at the Thackeray Gallery, London. In 1988 the Fine Art Society, Glasgow and Edinburgh, gave him a retrospective exhibition.
His work is represented in numerous collections, including those of the Universities of Birmingham, Edinburgh and St Andrews.
