Black Vase by Derrick Greaves
|
Printmaking was an important element in Greaves' practice employing a range of techniques: etching, lithography, monoprints, screenprints and ink-jet. Figurative images appeared regularly in his print series, here the still life image is simple and stylised, the line outlining the flower contrasts with the black mass of the vase that gives the print its name. Greaves was not concerned with a botanically accurate portrayal of a flower - the work explores contrast and balance.
