Untitled by Eva Holmström
|
This pastel drawing relates to a series of oil paintings on wood panel completed by Holmström in the 1990s and exhibited at the Ruth Bachofner Gallery in Santa Barbara, California. In these, painted boxes were incorporated into the surface, juxtaposing actual three-dimensional form with painted illusions of shapes. One of the themes of her work at that time was a concern for the connection and interchange between what we extract from the earth and what we return to it.
This work was one of three items presented to the University by David and Shirley Hines on the occasion of the University's 25th anniversary.
