Composition by Garth Evans

This work borders the line between sculpture and printmaking. The embossing or raising of the picture surface is a technique which is sometimes used on book covers. When used on a large surface such as this it begins to take on the impression of a sculpture. Even though it is not strictly a three dimensional work, it is obvious that it has begun to break away from the idea of a flat painting. The sections of brown and grey shades of differing saturation develop into jolting and interconnecting shapes. If you look carefully the pure white (negative) sections in between begin to compete for the role as the main focus in this work.
