Divided Red by Gordon Smith

Gordon Smith was born in Sussex, he then moved to Winnipeg in 1934 where he studied at the School of Art.
This is a work of art which is creating optical effects through the artist's careful choice of colours. The background is a wash of deep pink which is interrupted by the ribbon of colours in the centre.
It is interesting to observe that the straight red line in the centre begins to appear curved due to the wavy blocks and lines of colour which meander around it.
