Ivy Smith
Born 1945.
Ivy Smith is a painter and printmaker who studied at Walthamstow School of Art 1963-64, Central School of Art and Crafts 1964-65 and Chelsea School of Art 1965-67, from 1967-70 she also studied at the Royal Academy Schools. She has also held teaching posts at Norwich School of Art, the Royal Academy Schools and City College, Norwich.
Her work largely concerned with the human figure, often more than one in what have been described as "dynamic, compositional relationships".
She has won numerous prizes including the Royal Academy Gold Medal, 1968, Landseer Prize for Drawing, 1970, and the Kasmin Gallery Prize for a painting in the Young Contemporaries exhibition, 1970. Her work is in the collections of Sussex University, Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield, and Leamington Spa Art Gallery.
