Joanne Risley
Born in 1965 in Knutsford, Cheshire.
Joanne Risley studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, University of Dundee in 1987 (B.A. Fine Art 1987) and The University of Ulster (MA in Fine Art 1989).
She is a sculptor working predominantly in bronze and Cor-ten steel, often finding inspiration for her works in organic forms found in nature, just as the sculptor Peter Randall-Page has done for many of his carvings in stone. Risley translates these, sometimes microscopic, forms and their textures into large-scale objects which are enigmatic and invite reflective inquiry.
She began exhibiting while still a student and has since regularly shown at galleries throughout the UK and in Ireland; recent commissions include outdoor works for sites in Liverpool, Belfast, Wigan, Newport, Chester, Armagh and Antrim.
