Orange and Blue by Mario Dubsky
|
This painting dates from the severely abstract period of The New Generation exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery in 1966. In the catalogue to that exhibition Robert Hughes saw Dubsky as a 'traditional' painter in the painterly tradition of Matisse and de Stael, where the suggestion is of physical experience and natural objects, and the paint is 'built up until it's as rich as earth or the skin of a fruit'.
