Mark Titchner

Born 1973, Luton.

Trained at Hertfordshire College of Art & Design from 1991-1992 and Central St Martins College of Art & Design, London graduating in1995.

Titchner’s practice encompasses a wide range of media including large wall paintings, banners, prints, video, light boxes, sculpture and hand-made reliefs, often using computer design techniques. The work frequently uses text making reference to themes such as propaganda, marketing techniques, consumption and belief systems - political, scientific and religious. He describes his aim as engaging the viewers of his work in ‘a dialogue about how you receive thought and ideas’.

He was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2006 following the outstanding success of his solo exhibition’ IT IS YOU’ at the Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol. He has exhibited widely in the UK as well as in Amsterdam, Athens and Toronto where he was artist in residence at the Ontario Art Gallery in 2012.
