Paper Maze by Peter Midgley
|
Peter Midgley was a versatile artist whose work spanned a number of different forms and media. As well as painting, sculpture and print-making, he also produced murals for a number of prominent architectural projects. In 'Paper Maze' he ingeniously creates a striking abstract relief using folded newspaper. It possibly shows the influence of Kurt Schwitters, a pioneer of collage and the use of 'found' objects and materials, who taught Midgley (born Fleischmann) when they were both interned as enemy aliens in the Isle of Man during the Second World War.
