Dancers with Guitar by Sylvia Worthington
|
Sylvia Worthington used the method of silk-screen printing and the basic principles are that of a stencil. Paint is brushed over a screen so that colour penetrates those parts of the screen that have not previously been masked. The artist has used three successive masks on the same screen to create the image in three different shades.
The limited use of colour has the effect of focusing the viewer's attention on the strong accents and forms articulating the image. The urgent repeated lines create a sense of frantic movement and are integrated with recognisable fragments of dancers, their hands, feet and faces.
Impressions of music and dance are conveyed by the vitality of the forms and lines in the image.
