What's new in My Warwick
Accessibility improvements
Users can now globally opt out of animations and pause/resume auto-updating, animated tiles. If present, we will also respect your device-wide settings.
AEP assessment visibility
Assessments on the alternative examinations portal which are open for submission will now be displayed on the Coursework tile.
Bug fix: tile changes being lost
We've fixed a bug which prevented tile layout changes from being stored properly. This would result in changes to tiles being lost as soon as the app was reopened.
Bug fix: Library book due notifications
We've fixed a bug that prevented members of staff (or other users without an end date set on their library account) from receiving notifications about their checked-out library loans.
Tabula assignment deadline notifications
We'll now send notifications for assignments you need to hand in at 8am on their due date, if there's not already a submission. If the assignment has a non-standard due time (i.e. not 12 noon), we'll send notifications 4 hours before the deadline.
Previously, we would send notifications at midnight on the day an assignment was due. This change does not affect the other notifications sent the day before and 7 days prior to the deadline.
iOS visual fixes
We've fixed some positioning problems on iOS. You might have noticed this with the update banner at the bottom of the screen, or the hidden tiles button. These should now appear in their correct vertical positions, and shouldn't be partially obscured by the tab bar.
New colour schemes
We've added some brand new colour schemes (Lakeside, Oculus and The Slate) to the app. We'll display your profile photo in black and white if you choose our dark theme (The Slate). Under all other circumstances, your photo will display as normal.
News tab
Notification details
On Android, details for alerts can now be expanded in the notification view without having to open the app.
Two-step codes and web links
Do not Disturb
We've added a 'Do not Disturb' feature to My Warwick, so that you can stop it from sending you alerts at night, for example. Any alerts which would have been sent when Do not Disturb is on will be queued up and sent shortly after the Do not Disturb period ends instead.
Two-step authentication tokens
We've added a feature to the My Warwick app which automatically shows the 6 digit token you need when signing in to a new device with Warwick two-step authentication turned on. This means that you don't need to install a separate authenticator app or to receive SMS messages in order to use two step authentication at Warwick.
Academic week numbers
We've added academic week numbers on the Timetable and Events tiles when they're large enough to be able to display extra information (and in individual event cards too).
O365 Mail and Calendar previews
We've added popup preview windows to the Office 365 Mail and Calendar tiles, so you can easily check the content of an email or calendar event without having to leave the My Warwick app. Emails and calendar events which have extra information available to show are marked with an "info" icon.
Sports tile link
We've added a link from the Sports tile to the Sport Centre booking system so that you can get more details about your bookings and make new bookings.
More details for Event tile items
For some events on the Events tile, there's more detailed information available about the event as well as just its title. Where we can find such additional information, we now show it in a pop-up window that appears when you touch the event title.
Timetable alarms
We've fixed a problem which meant that in certain circumstances iPhone users were unable to turn timetable alarms off.
Improved timetable alarms
We've made changes to timetable alarms to make them work more reliably, and in particular to report more accurately whether they're currently switched on or not.
Alerts for new files
We've added alerts for changes made to files in your H drive if you have a Warwick Accommodation sub-folder. These sub-folders are used to store documentation relating to your off-campus accommodation, and the Accommodation team make changes to files in that folder which can be hard to spot; these alerts are intended to make it easier.
Timetable alarms
We've added alarms for timetable events. To turn these on and control when they should sound (5, 15 or 30 minutes beforehand), go to the Settings screen and touch Timetable alarms. When an alarm goes off, your phone will play a sound and display a notification on your lock screen which includes the title and location for the event.
Library tile improvements
We've improved the performance of the Library tile and added some more specific information for particular types of loan such as short loans.
Warwick Volunteers events
We've added Warwick Volunteers events as a source for the Events tile. As with all sources for this tile, you can choose whether to include it in your view of the tile by going to the preferences screen, then touching Tile preferences, then Events.
Timetable reliability
We've improved the reliability of timetable display, particularly for WBS students, but also for all students at times when the timetable system is under heavy load.
Sports Centre tile
We've added a tile which shows bookings you've made with Warwick Sports Centre.
Tile removal bug
We've fixed a bug which was causing tiles to be removed unintentionally in certain circumstances.
Support for Dynamic Type on iPhone
We've added support for Dynamic Type on iPhones. If you use your phone's settings to make text bigger or smaller than the default, you'll now find that text in the My Warwick app follows your preference.
High contrast option for tiles
We've added a High contrast option to make text on tiles easier to read. To switch this on, go to the preferences screen, touch Colour scheme and then touch the High contrast switch.
Bus tile improvements
We've added buses going to campus as well as those leaving the campus, and we've improved the layout of the bus tile settings screen to group settings by area (Leamington, Kenilworth, etc).
Location permissions
We've improved the way that the My Warwick app asks for permission to use your location. It won't ask as often now, and won't ask repeatedly when you touch the map tile to open the full campus map view.
Choose how to open email
We've added a preference for what to do when you touch a message on the Email tile. You can now open it in Office 365 webmail, or in your phone's native Mail app, or in the Outlook app if you have it installed. To choose what you want to happen, go to the Settings screen, then touch Tile preferences, then O365 Mail.
Photos permission bug
We've fixed a bug which prevented you from choosing a photo to upload because we had neglected to ask for permission to access your phone's photo library and camera.
Map links
We've improved the way links to the campus map are handled by always opening them within the app itself rather than opening a separate web browser.
