Christmas Stories, Professor Jon Mee

In this podcast Professor Jon Mee is joined by three of his MA students, Harriet Kilikita, Rebecca Lea and Emma Seddon, to discuss the link between Dickens and Christmas. They discuss A Christmas Carol, some of the enduring phrases borne from this work and the most famous Christmas character, Scrooge. They also discuss some of his lesser-known short stories

I think, somehow, A Christmas Carol has this mythic status. Myself, my favourite isn’t the Christmas Carol, it’s the second one – The Chimes. Dickens wrote a Christmas story every year between 1843 and 1848, bar one, and of the five stories, I think The Chimes is the most powerful.
