F T Prince was considered one of the most significant poets of the 20th century by writers as diverse as Geoffrey Hill, John Ashbery and Lee Harwood. His most famous poem, Soldiers Bathing, was published in More Poems From the Forces in 1943. He was Professor of English at the University of Southampton from 1957 to 1974.
