Placement - Monica Xiao Wei
Monica is on the Psychology pathway at the University of Birmingham and completed a placement with BID Services from 12/7/2025 to 19/10/2025.
During the placement, Monica was primarily involved in supporting the Youth Club and Job Club initiatives. She also supported the community team with activity planning, including preparations for the Halloween gathering event.
While Monica had volunteered with the Youth Club previously, she appreciated that the placement allowed her to take on a more active and consistent role, which greatly deepened her understanding of the day-to-day organisation and delivery of community support. A key benefit was gaining a broader perspective on how different service areas—such as youth engagement, employment support, and community events—work together to promote inclusion and accessibility within the Deaf community.
