Overseas Institutional Visit (OIV) - Tom Lewis
Tom Lewis is on the Human Geography pathway at the University of Birmingham. Tom undertook an 8-week OIV at the University of Melbourne in Australia.
During the OIV, Tom engaged in advanced discussions on the concepts, theories, and empirics at the centre of hisPhD research with their mentor. Apart from consolidating Tom's current research, these conversations also led towards plans for postdoctoral fellowship applications and career development.
Tom also presented his research on the international stage through a series of high-profile dissemination activities, such as delivering a working manuscript “Muscle memory, sovereignty, and the limits of responsibility" during the Geography Seminar Series, and organising a workshop on "muscle memory", and presenting at UNSW Canberra upon the invitation of internationally renowned academics.
Overall, Tom's OIV to the University of Melbourne has strengthened his scholarly networks, provided an international platform to share and receive feedback on his research, and has laid the foundations for future collaborations and publications.
