Placement - Madelyn Butterworth
Madelyn Butterworth is on the Social Policy Pathway at Loughborough University and undertook a placement with the LBGT Foundation.
Throughout the placement, Madelyn worked on and completed a report for the LGBT Foundation that consisted of a short literature review of chemsex, analysing quantitative data from the organisation, and developing a research strategy for future research. She had a productive experience creating a report specifically for a charity, ensuring that the content written was not for the academic background and was all practically useful for any future research. The charity appreciated this focus, as it means they are able to circulate the report to other staff members who have little knowledge on chemsex.
The placement has had a positive impact on Madelyn's quantitative analysis skills. She has become much more comfortable with using R to analyse data. The placement also helped improve her writing skills for non-academic audiences. She now has a greater understanding of what it means to complete research and a report for a charity.
