Power in Motion: Performance and Representation
Teaching Project in partnership with the Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning (IATL)
Dr Théo Aiolfi, current co-convenor of the Warwick Performance and Politics Network, is offering to undergraduate students of the University of Warwick a series of teaching workshops entitled entitled “Power in Motion: Performance and Representation”. This project is developed as part of his position as Early Career Teaching Fellow for the Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning (IATL), and will seek to exploring the multifaceted way power is being represented and performed across three areas of society. It will comprise of three complementary workshops which will be co-led with an academic guest whose expertise complements the general discussion on performance and power:
- "Performing Justice: Power and Law" with Mouli Banerjee; which will take place on the 28th of February 2022 from 10AM to 1PM in the new Faculty of Arts Building, room 2.25
- "Performing Authority: Power and Education" with Josh Patel which will take place on the 2nd of March 2022 from 10AM to 1PM in the Oculus Building, room OC0.02
- "Performing Expertise: Power and Science" with Vivan Joseph which will take place on the 4th of March 2022 from 10AM to 1PM in the new Faculty of Arts Building, room 2.25
These teaching workshops will be structured in the following way: the first half of the workshop will be dedicated to an interactive lecture where Théo and the guest speaker will develop some of the key themes and issues pertaining to the intersection between politics and performance with law, education and science. Following a lunch break, students will then be placed in groups and work on a role-playing activity emphasising improvisation and acting to encourage the students to explore the questions raised in the first half of the session.
The workshop series will take place on week 8 of term 2, and lunch will be provided for the participants. Although students are encouraged to attend all the workshops to grasp the full pedagogical breadth of the project, they also have the choice to only attend one or two of the workshops. This event is opened to students of all levels and disciplinary backgrounds.
