Hannah Andrews

Profile:

I am a first year PhD student within the Division of Health Sciences at Warwick Medical School. My research focuses on Compassionate Care, specifically looking at self-care and self-compassion within nursing. I am completing a Qualitative research study using Grounded Theory to explore the following:

  • What are nurses experiences of self-care and self-compassion?
  • How do these experiences relate to compassionate care-giving?

My research sits with the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Research Institute and Warwick Medical School.

I also work part time within the NHS as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Eating Disorders within Coventry.

Background:

I qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 2001 and since that time have held a number of clinical and managerial posts within the fields of Acute Psychiatric Care, Psychiatric Intensive Care, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Private Mental Health Inpatient Care and Eating Disorder Services.

I completed my Masters by Research in 2013, which focused on Compassion Focused Therapy for Low Weight Eating Disorder Patients. This had been funded by the Comprehensive Local Research Network- West Midlands South (CLRN), as part of their research mentorship programme.

I have been in my current post since 2010, and in addition to my clinical duties I also teach other clinicians regarding eating disorders, medical and psychiatric risk and compassion focused approaches. I enjoy teaching and have taught to a variety of audiences over the years, including NHS, Universities, Charities and Schools.
