Warwick hosts Brazilian meeting!
On the 1st and 2nd February 2016, Warwick Electrochemistry successfully hosted a conference to which academics, PhD students and postgrads from Brazil and other institutes were invited. Recently, Warwick has been developing links with universities and industries in Brazil in recognition of the growing importance of Brazil and a global research economy. As such, our guests included those from Universidade de São Paulo and Universidade Federal do Paraná, along with University of Liverpool, University of Birmingham, and Warwick Manufacturing Group.
Talks ranged from electrochemical capacitors, batteries and energy storage, to electrodeposition, metal oxides and smart materials, to electrochemical sensors and carbon electrodes. (Left to right: Mr. Tom Galloway, Prof. Susana Torresi, Dr. Laurence Hardwick, Prof. Patrick Unwin)
Of course, there was a poster session to accompany the talks, and a prize was awarded to that poster which caught the eye of our distinguished Brazilian guests - none other than our own Zoe Ayres
Overall, the event was a success and was enjoyed by all who attended.
Electrochem 2015 Win
Congratulations to Zoe Ayres who won the poster prize at Electrochem 2015 on her work developing a diamond pH sensor.
Annual Diamond Conference
Warwick University hosted the annual Diamond Conference sponsored by De Beers, celebrating the 66th year of the conference. The conference ran from thre 6th to the 9th of July with delegates attending from all over the globe. Lectures covered a wide variety of different diamond research areas including electrochemical applications, nanodiamond, gemmology, quantum technologies, CVD growth, as well as diamond devices and applications.
Several members of the research group presented posters about their diamond research. Congratulations to Zoe Ayres who won the Student poster prize on her research into the development of diamond pH sensor technology.
MEG at Warwick
On Monday the 22nd of June, the Midlands Electrochemistry Group annual meeting was held at Warwick. MEG allows PhD electrochemists from different research groups across the Midlands to do talks and present posters to their peers in a friendly conference environment.
Prizes won by the group included best poster won by both Tania and Maria, along with Minkyung recieving the runner up poster prize. Sze and Lingcong got second and third prizes for their talks respectively.
Plenary talks were given by Professor Alan Bond and Dr Jie Zhang. Thank you to the event sponsors: Uniscan Instruments, Alvatek, Metrohm, IJ Cambria, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the International Society of Electrochemistry.
Postgraduate Symposium 2015
The chemsitry Postgraduate Symposium took place on Wednesday 27th of May 2015 at Warwick. Over 200 staff, students and researchers attended.
Congratulations to Faduma Maddar (third left) for winning the poster prize on her PhD work: "Quantitative Dissolution Kinetics of a Bicalutamide Single Microcrystal in Aqueous Solution: An In situ Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Finite Element Modelling (FEM) Study".
The runner-up talk prize was also won by a Alex Parker for his talk on "New Combinatorial Approaches for Investigating the Localized Dissolution of Dental Enamel and Impact of Surface Treatments".
