WCTU Internships and Work Experience opportunities

Statistician Internship

Applications are invited from undergraduate students interested in a career in medical statistics for a summer internship funded by an NIHR Research Methods Fellowship within Warwick Clinical Trials Unit. This prestigious internship will provide a high calibre student the opportunity to gain experience of applying statistical methods within a fast-paced medical research environment.

You will join an active statistics group within Warwick CTU (WCTU) that provide statistical support on the design, implementation, analysis and reporting of large multi-centre randomised controlled trials. Current clinical areas of WCTU research include cancer, emergency and critical care, mental health, musculoskeletal disorders and pain, rehabilitation, trauma and orthopaedics.

Working closely with our NIHR Research Methods Fellow, Yujin Lee, under the supervision of Professor Gavin Perkins and Dr Jane Warwick, the intern will work on a research project focusing on inference in medical research when there is informative dropout. This will largely involve assisting in the analysis of data, write up and presentation of results and will require training and compliance with relevant research guidelines, data protection and ethical requirements. You will also be expected to develop agendas and materials for research project meetings as requested.

This post is full-time, fixed-term for up to 10 weeks (July-August 2018) with the specific dates to be agreed with the successful candidate. Appointment will be at grade 4 of the university’s salary scale (£21,585 per annum pro rata). Interviews will take place on 20th March 2018.

Applicants should be concluding their second year of a three year undergraduate degree (or third year of a four year degree) in Mathematics, Statistics, or a relevant quantitative discipline, and have the right to work within the UK.

To apply, please send a CV (including 2 academic referees) and covering letter detailing your suitability for the post and why you are interested to Dr Jane Warwick (j dot warwick at warwick dot ac dot uk) by 11th March 2018. Informal enquiries may also be sent to the above.
